Understanding Lead Hazards

Lead is a toxic metal once commonly used in paint, pipes, and soil. Homes built before 1978 often contain lead-based paint, which can flake into dust or chips and become dangerous—especially for children.

Lead exposure can cause:

  • Learning and behavior problems

  • Organ damage and long-term health issues
